The Dinosaur Capital of Texas, Glen Rose

Cities to Visit: Glen Rose, Texas

Glen Rose is best known as the "Dinosaur Capital of Texas," but there is more to enjoy on your trip to Glen Rose.

On the historic square visitors will find a quaint courthouse, shops, restaurants and a free museum with a gorgeous backdrop of hills and rivers. Dinosaur Valley State Park is the focal point for visitors and dinosaur tracks can be viewed by the public. The state park offers camping, hiking, biking trails and access to the Paluxy River.

Glen Rose has gained international fame as home to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It features a 9.5 mile self-guided drive that includes a nature store, picnic area, petting pasture and playground. Behind the scene tours are also available and there are also overnight accommodations.

Glen Rose has several museums, including the Creation Evidence Museum, Barnard's Mill and Art Museum, and the Somervell County Museum. Glen Rose also has Squaw Valley Golf Course, which is a spectacular 36-hole course. The Promise is an epic musical drama about the life of Jesus Christ. It is performed every Friday and Saturday evening from the first of June through the end of October.

When planning a trip to Glen Rose you can not experience it all in one day, so plan an overnight stay. Glen Rose is home to more than 20 bed and breakfasts. There are also a number of cabins, lodges, motels, RV parks and campgrounds.
